The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a 2-day accredited course that qualifies delegates to deliver first aid to infants and children. Essential for anyone working in childcare, education, or family-facing roles.
Who it’s for
This course is for professionals working with infants (under 1) and children (1 to puberty) — nursery staff, childminders, school and after-school personnel, sports coaches, holiday-club leaders, and parents or family carers who want structured competence in child-specific emergencies.
What you’ll learn
- Assess and respond safely to incidents involving infants and children
- Perform infant and child CPR, including AED use adapted for paediatric casualties
- Manage a choking infant or child
- Recognise and respond to shock, bleeding, burns, and head injuries in children
- Handle paediatric medical emergencies including seizures, meningitis, asthma, and anaphylaxis
- Provide first aid for common injuries and illnesses specific to young casualties
Format
- Duration: 2 days (12 contact hours), delivered consecutively or across 2 non-consecutive days by arrangement
- Delivery: in-person, at your premises for on-site groups (6+ delegates) or at our Bristol venue for open courses
- Cohort size: up to 12 delegates per instructor
- Materials: printed learner workbook, paediatric first-aid manual, and QA-issued certificate on successful completion
- Assessment: ongoing practical assessment plus a short written evaluation on day 2
Accreditation and certification
Certified by Qualsafe Awards (QA) against the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at Level 3. Meets Ofsted’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements for paediatric first-aid competency. Certification is valid for 3 years.

Delivered by Comera Medical Training. All trainers hold the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), current first-aid instructor certification, and enhanced DBS clearance.
Outcomes
On successful completion you’ll hold the QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF), an Ofsted-recognised qualification that satisfies EYFS staffing requirements and demonstrates competence in first-aid response to paediatric casualties.
